British Abstract Pioneer | 1920–1992
Deeply inspired by European Constructivism and artists like Piet Mondrian and Victor Pasmore, Heath’s work explored the relationships between form, space, and colour, often using geometric structures to convey a sense of balance and rhythm.
A graduate of the Slade School of Fine Art, Heath was also a key advocate for abstraction in Britain during a time when figurative painting still dominated.
He played a central role in artist-led movements and was instrumental in fostering the growth of abstract art through teaching, writing, and exhibiting. Heath’s paintings, while formally rigorous, possess a quiet lyricism and a contemplative quality that reflect his deep engagement with structure and harmony. His legacy continues as an important contributor to the evolution of British abstract art.
